The li'l girl who used to play in the garden has finally turned into a blooming young lady. She seldom visits the garden now. She loved to spend time with her friends. Now she rarely notice the lovely garden, the roses she used to love.
Guys around the neighborhood courted her. They wanted her, as she had grown to be beautiful and sweet. She can be the perfect woman to marry. And her young heart learned to love a young man.
One night, the young man went to visit her. When she heard the knock on the door her heart leaped. She ran to meet the guy. And as she opened the door, he offered her a dozen roses. She felt her cheek flushed. And on that night she knew, she's in love with the sweet young man.
That night, her Dad found her sitting beside the window, looking at the garden under the pale moonlight.
Her Dad asked, "What are you looking at my li'l girl?"
She smiled and looked at him, "I'm looking at the roses Daddy. They are more beautiful than ever. See them, looks like they are dancing under the moonlight."
She looked back at the garden with a dreamy, magical smile.
Her Dad laughed, "My li'l girl I know your heart is falling in love over the young man's smile."
She pouted her lips, "Is it wrong to love Daddy? He makes my heart beat like never before. He makes me happy. He gives me this feeling of being cared for, wanted, needed... loved. And I feel so lucky to be loved by him."
Her Dad looked out of the window, "There's nothing wrong with falling in love my dear li'l girl. It's a wonderful feeling. As the old adage says, To love and be loved is the greatest happiness of existence.. But be careful my sweet li'l girl coz falling in love is not just a magical feeling."
Her face was filled with questions with the things she heard from her Dad, waiting him to tell more. Her Dad looked at her with fondness, "My sweet li'l darling you will come to know what am I saying. Goodnight my li'l girl!"
As her Dad kissed her head, she said,"Dad I'm not a li'l girl anymore!"
Her Dad just smiled at her and went out of her room. She was left seated by the window, dreamily wishing about the young man. And imagining the endless romance they will have.
For the next days, she was in the magical world of love. Sweet smiles and kisses. Forever hugs and promises. But as they were young and careless, in this clueless world. They're sweet love turned sour because of being nonchalantly proud at each other over little quarrels.
One lazy afternoon, her Dad found her sitting in the garden, crying and sobbing. Her Dad sat beside her and hold her hand.
"Daddy I don't understand. How can he hurt me so bad? He promised not to.."
Her Dad smiled at her and wiped away the tears, "My dear li'l girl look at the roses you loved to play with. Isn't it that the roses' beauty gives you a smile. By merely looking at them it gives you happiness, right?"
The young lady was confused why should her Dad asked such question while she is nursing her broken heart.
"The person you love gives you happiness without any effort, just like the rose. By merely looking at the rose it brings you a smile. And just by the presence of you sweetheart will make you smile."
She nodded..
Her Dad continued, "But the rose sometimes unintentionally hurt us with her thorns. Did you notice that with one stem of rose there are a lot of thorns?"
Again she nodded..
"My dear li'l girl, the pain we can get from the person who makes us happy is not just twice but it may be more, than the smiles they give us."
She embraced her Dad and silently cried.
"Baby girl, God will give you enough trials to make you sweeter and stronger. Remember, you've learned how to love.. Then you must learn everything.."
She never uttered a word but now she understands. She must learn everything.. Including nursing and healing her broken heart. And she smiled at the roses that were dancing with the late afternoon breeze.
