Despite the recent breakup rumors, Rachelle Ann Go said she's very happy with boyfriend John Prats.
"Sobrang we're okay. We're very happy. Hindi ko alam kung saan nanggaling yung mga (breakup) issues. Maybe because wala kaming issue? Siguro yung mga tao, 'ay wala na yan?' Nung umpisa parang dedma, saan nanggagaling? Hinahayaan na lang namin," she told Yahoo! OMG! Philippines in an interview during the pocket press conference for the local production of the Broadway musical "The Little Mermaid."
The songstress will play the lead character Ariel in this stage musical, which will have a five-weekend run starting this November.
If there are any issues with the relationship, she said, it's probably their busy schedules. John works everyday as co-host of ABS-CBN's daily noontime variety show "Happy, Yipee, Yehey," while Rachelle Ann appears on the afternoon soap opera "Nita Negrita" on GMA-7. They also both appear on their home networks' competing Sunday noontime shows, "ASAP Rocks" and "Party Pilipinas."
"Busy lang ngayon kasi yung schedule namin di nagkakatugma. Mayroon akong soap pa nga ngayon. Siya rin everyday din. Sobrang konti lang yung time namin," Rachelle said.
In fact, their schedules are so conflicting that the couple had to spend Valentines' Day (and John's birthday) last February apart. Rachelle went to Singapore for a vacation with John's family even though the actor-host had to stay behind in Manila for his hosting duties.
However, she said they make sure they spend the little time they have for each properly.
"Kung meron mang time talagang lulubos-lubusin na namin. Quality time talaga. Dinadalaw nya ako, ganun," Rachelle said.
For instance, John and Rachelle spent the Holy Week together in Kuala Lumpur, again with the male host's family.
She said John's family made her feel part of the family because of their support.
"Sobrang bait nila. Sobrang wala akong masasabi against them. Talagang sobra kung paano nila ako i-welcome sa family nila. Nakakatuwa lang. Yung sa 'Little Mermaid' din, talagang alam din nila ito. Nakakatuwa." Rachelle said.
She added that John's family guaranteed her that they'll watch her show. "Sabi ko magdala sila ng banner," Rachelle joked.
On marriage
Since Rachelle is already close with John's family, is a wedding already in the offing for the young couple? The singer said she's aware people around them are talking about it.
"Ganun na ba ako katanda?" she joked. "Siguro at my age, ito na yung marrying age. I'm turning 25 this year. Siya, 27. And siguro, maraming nag-(sasabi) na, 'o baka it's about time for you to settle down.'"
Rachelle added, however, that while they have talked about marriage, there are still no wedding plans as of now.
"Napaguusapan namin yun pero walang plano. Sa lahat naman ng reslasyon napaguusapan yun. Pero masyado pang maaga para planuhin ang mga ganyang bagay. So ngayon, kumbaga, masaya kami, nageenjoy kami. Ang everyday may mga nadidiscover kami. Talagang nasa amin kung paano ieembrace yun," she said.
But when would Rachelle Ann consider as the right time for marriage?
"Siguro turning point yun e. Hindi mo masasabi kung anong age. You'll never know talaga. Kung darating, darating. Sabi nga, perfect timing for everything. Mararamdaman mo kung kailan yung panahon," she said.
"Bukas na!" she added, jokingly.
First time
Although Rachelle has done some occasional acting work before, "The Little Mermaid" will be her first theater gig. And since it's a musical, the singer will have be act, sing, and dance onstage. She said John encouraged her to audition for the role last year.
"Nung auditions pala kasi, di ko alam kung maga-audition ako. Sobra kasi yung kaba. And i-encourage niya ako, pinush nya ako na, 'kaya mo yan.' And sobrang happy sya for me kasi alam nya na I really want to do this," she said.
She's always wanted to audition for a theater role, Rachelle said.
"Kasi meron isang project before this, may audition din. And yung role is medyo alanganin ako. And parang sobrang mature for me. And I was thinking, kaya ko kaya ito? E nagdadalawang isip ako. Sabi ko, 'maybe it's not yet the right time to do this.' So nung dumating nga itong 'Little Mermaid,' sabi ko, 'this is it.' Naramdaman ko sya," Rachelle said.
That project she wanted to try out for, she revealed, is "Rent," which had a three month-long local productions since 2010.
For "The Little Mermaid," Rachelle will play Princess Ariel, the mermaid who wants to experience life on land. She plays opposite Erik Santos, who was cast as Prince Eric.
Rachelle said she's aware some people might question her being chosen for the lead role of a big production, considering this is her first time to do theater.
"Naintindihan ko rin naman yun kasi marami rin akong naririnig na, 'kaya ba nilang gawin yan?' bilang it's our first time to do that. Syempre, nakakapressure rin for us na marinig yun kasi ring iba na matagal ng ginagawa ito and kami yung nabigyan ng pagkakataon to do this. And I'm very thankful na nagtiwala sila sa amin to do this. I guess kailangan lang talaga namin mag focus sa gagawin namin and gawin namin yung best para di namin madisappoint yung mga tao," she explained.
