MANILA, Philippines - Ilocos Sur Rep. Ronald Singson is expected to be excluded from the list of 283 congressmen at the 15th Congress as the House of Representatives is set to adopt a resolution today which formally accepts his resignation.
Speaker Feliciano ''Sonny'' Belmonte Jr. said that in today's plenary session, they would adopt the resolution recognizing Singson's decision to vacate his post after he was sentenced to 18 months in jail by Hong Kong's Wan Chai District Court for illegal drug use.
''We will accept his resignation by adopting a resolution,'' the House Chief said.
Belmonte would introduce the resolution of acceptance, along with House Minority Leader and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman and House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali ''Boyet'' Gonzales II as authors.
Gonzales said the adoption of resolution would mean the delisting of Singson's name from the roll.
''If the plenary adopts it, his name will be dropped from the roll,'' he said.
He said they fell short in immediately attending to Singson's resignation letter because their plenary sessions last Tuesday and Wednesday were suspended due to the malfunctioning of the air-conditioning system.
''Now the air-conditioning system is now working again,'' Gonzales said.
In a one-page resignation letter, the Ilocos Sur lawmaker said he resigned not because he succumbed to the pressure of the noisy few colleagues at the Lower House, but because he has to fulfill his promise to his father whose name and honor was mercilessly dragged by his drug use conviction.
