A word war between two popular personalities on Twitter has now turned into a wide-scale controversy. About what? A Valentine's date that never was.
Last week, Philippine Azkals striker Phil Younghusband surprised everyone when he invited "Imortal" star Angel Locsin out on a Valentine's date through the social networking site Twitter. But because Angel had work that day, the "date" didn't push through.
Last Saturday, however, TV host and socialite Tim Yap tweeted "Just learned that Phil Younghusband will be going out on a date with Angel Locsin tomorrow. They're gonna go target shooting. Hanep!" Did the much awaited date finally happen?
The answer is no. Unfortunately, the target shooting range is closed on Sundays. But how did Tim know about Angel and Phil's date plans? Why is ABS-CBN sports reporter and anchor TJ Manotoc's name dragged into the issue. TJ explained his side also on Twitter.
"Let me explain again. He (Tim) was at Robot w/ James, Phil & Azkals. He found out from James of the date. He told James & Phil he'd tweet it. They didn't resist, so he did. I saw it a few hours later. I RT'd it w a question "so it's finally happening"? I asked Phil via text. He asked how I knew. I said Tim's tweet. He replied it's not true. So I tweeted again simply quoting Phil: he said it's not true. So clearly nagbago isip ni Phil about how public to make it. Tim is accurate & correct, and so was I :) End of story. Hope you understand na?," tweeted TJ.
To calm her Twitter followers, Angel also posted a tweet to clarify Tim and TJ's earlier posts.
"Just to clear things, we didn't go target shooting. We thought about it but we found out saturday afternoon that the range closes on sundays☺ be nice to @iamtimyap & @tjmanotoc :) hehe, happy happy! :)"
Meanwhile in a taped interview with ABS-CBN's "SNN," Phil's brother, James Younghusband, revealed that his brother really likes Angel and finds the actress very attractive.
"Actually I was the one who told him (Phil) to do it (ask Angel out on Valentine's Day). He was actually encouraged by some fans...and then he asked me 'Shall I do it?' and then I said 'Just don't be afraid mate.' He finds her very attractive. They make a cute couple."
