A new optical technology is being
tested in japan, The technology is capable of reaching speeds of 30 Tbps
. The trial has been conducted by KDDI R&D labs with National
Institute of Information and Communication Technology (NICT) in japan.
Tested using the technology called OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division
Multiplex).
Well 30 Tbps is aproximately
equivalent to 32 billion kilobites per second. At this rate, per second
of data that can be sent to reach 3.9 million MB, or nearly 1000 pieces
of DVD movies per second. testing was conducted at a distance of 240
kilometers, which means not jut testing at close range. KDDI plans to
commercialize this technology in 2012.
