CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, July 19 (PIA) -- Personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in Central Luzon were held up as human rights protectors during an orientation conducted by the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) – Region 3 recently, this city.
The security personnel were charged to deepen their human rights consciousness in close partnership with other government agencies, civil society groups and non-government organizations.
According to PSupt. Wendy Rosario, deputy regional director of PNP in Central Luzon, the conducted orientation is along the lines of the PNP Integrated Transformation Program, the PNP Human Rights (HR) Development Program or “Loi Pamana,” and the Eight Foundation Initiatives of PNP chief General Raul Bacalzo.
In short messages, PNP regional director Edgardo Ladao affirmed the role of PNP personnel as protectors and guardians of human rights, while Col. Henry Cinco of the AFP implied that the responsibility in human rights promotion and protection lies not only among peacekeeping forces but to everyone as stakeholders.
CHR regional director Jasmin Navarro-Regino, meanwhile, is adamant in making Central Luzon a huge contributor to the improvement of human rights situation in the country, primarily through the enhancement of the good collaboration and relationship between the AFP and PNP, on one hand, and local communities and civil society organizations, on the other hand, in the common effort to promote human rights.
Regino added that the orientation serves as an offshoot to CHR’s effort to forge community-based partnership in pursuit of active participation and cooperation for the promotion and protection of human rights of all individuals. (WLB/JGB-PIA3)
